Intoduction day, the first two small trips and the burning sun

On Saturday morning we got up at 5.30h in order to be at the Politecnico Grancolombiano at 8.00h. We took the university bus at a special bus station at 7.30h, which was already crowded at that time. The buses here in Bogotá are very small, meaning that I had huge problems to accommodate my legs somewhere :-). After our arrival we were offered a great programme, including a live performance of a band and a nice caipoera show. During the event there were three speeches given in Spanish, one of them was understandable, the rest sounded like "Bahnhof" to us. Moreover, we were told the day before that we would need to come to the stage in order to present ourselves in Spanish. The other students were told though that we would do it in German. So the audience was delighted, when we performed our best Espanol, as they did not expect it!!! Besides that, we still hope that our classes will be offered in English, otherwise it will become a tough time.

Further, we got to know two Colombians that were really nice and showed the city to us: On Saturday evening we went to a Salsa Bar and on Sunday we chilled in a huge and awesome park, where I got a nice sunburn on the entire left side of my body :-D! Afterwards, we went to a bar high up the mountain. Up there we could see (half of) Bogota at night. It was an amazing view and the pictures will follow soon.

So far, we did not experience any dangerous situations or felt really insecure. Of course, there were some areas we passed that you should not visit at night. But it is really different from the image that Colombia has among people in Europe. We are very happy to be here and we are looking forward to a great time! At the moment we are still looking for an apartment that is close to the uni (45 minutes drive before 6.20h a.m. and 90 minutes at a later time. That is normal here :-D)

We also discovered something really strange: All people want to learn Dutch....But they actually mean Deutsch. So obviously no-one understands the difference between Holland and Germany :-D!

  2. oh man, I left a legancy by sending three almost 200cm dutch guys over the last time.
keep in mind that the colombians consider europe as the place to be and if you compare the small sound difference between dutch (soft) and german(hard) it is likely that they are confused.
We will leave it op to you (pablo and Daantje) to sorten this out.....
